All our instructors are trained to the standards laid down by the Driving Standards Agency

After passing your CBT and motorcycle theory test you are the able to take your practical motorcycle test. Persons aged between 17 to 20 years are only permitted to take the test on a 125cc machine that does not have a power output exceeding 11kW. At UMT we have a fleet of Yamaha 125cc SR's. Depending on your experience UMT would recommend a training course that would get your riding skills up to test standard. As a general guide examples of various courses are below:

2 Days - Riders who have experience in off road events such as, enduro, trials, tracks, or have six months on road experience since passing the CBT .

3 Days - Individuals with a little experience many years ago, or may have been riding for a short period since passing their CBT .

4 Days - An ideal course for riders who have no riding or driving experience on the road.

The training days are full days (minimum of 6 hours) normally starting at 9.30 a.m. and finishing at 4.00 p.m. On road training will be conducted with a maximum training ratio of two students to one instructor, you will also have radio contact at all times. On the day of your test you will have a full day of training, with mock tests in the morning followed by your practical test in the afternoon.

Having passed your practical test on a 125cc machine you will be restricted to ride any machine up to a power output of 25kW or 33 bhp. This allows you to ride most machines up to approximately 350/400cc, but you must check the kW and bhp. In some cases you may wish to purchase a 500/600cc machine, in which case make sure you get an approved dealer to fit the machine with a 'restrictor kit'.

Two years after the date of passing your standard practical test you will automatically be able to ride any size machine.

Riders over the age of 21, or those who reach 21 before their two year restriction ends have the option of taking the Direct Access Scheme which will entail learning and being tested on a 'big bike' with a power output of at least 35kW.
